Carer Role

The carerís role is to ensure that Service Users are safe and well. To do this you should assist them with their personal needs, these are :
Physical, Social, Intellectual, Spiritual and Emotional.

You should also help them to deal with pain and bereavement and offer support to the service user and there family, give helpful advice and to assist access to the community at all times.

The roles are:

1 Personal care

Assisting to bath/bed bath
Assisting to toilet
Managing continence
Skin care
Care of commodes/ bed pans
Care of teeth
Care of spectacles and hearing aids
Palliative care
Assisted feeding

2 In the home

Light house work
Tidying up
Reporting faults/hazards
Cleaning bathrooms, bedrooms, lounges, dining rooms etc.

3 Home skills

Lay tables
Preparing food shopping/outings
Checking diets
Making drinks
Laundering clothes

4 Making appointments


5 Reporting and recording

GP and District Nurse visits
Attendance to hospital
Admittance to hospital or home accidents/ incidents
Cares report book
Care plans
Attending client reviews

6 Communication skills

Making telephone calls
Writing letters
Contacting relatives and friends
Reading news papers
Passing on information to the team
Social activities
